FOSS are people living in the vicinity of Styal with a desire to see a viable future for Styal railway station.
The local rail operator, Northern Rail, is progressive in this respect and encourages community engagement.
Styal station is located just off the B5166 between Wilmslow and Heald Green. It’s on Station Road – 50 metres from the war memorial. The station is between Manchester Airport and Wilmslow on the Manchester to Crewe line.
Styal is home to the National Trust run Quarry Bank Mill and Styal Estate, which is well worth a days visit. This can easily be reached by public transport, by taking bus 200, which runs hourly between Manchester Airport and Wilmslow Station, via Styal, and also by train.
Also close to Styal Station is HMP Styal, one of the largest female prisons in the UK with over 450 inmates. A recent addition to the Prison Facility is a restaurant, called ‘The Clink‘, it is a fully equipped restaurant turning out high quality food, while giving offenders a chance to learn new skills and access to employment opportunities.
Opened in 1962, it occupies some of the “Styal Cottages” accommodation and plus purpose built buildings just off Styal Road between the village centre and Worms Hill.
